Description: The CALTRANS District 1 yard at Bracut, California. Bracut is an unincorporated community located on the Northwestern Pacific Railroad 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Arcata, at an elevation of 16 feet (5 m) in Humboldt County, California. The name originated as a contraction of the railway cut through Brainard hill in the Humboldt Bay salt marsh. The leveled hill provided fill for the railway, the flat remains are now now the site of several large structures remaining from previous lumber operations in the Bracut Industrial Park, the CALTRANS yard at center of photo and and a campground out of view to right.
