Description: The queen of Art Deco binding. English, 1930. Sybil Pye (1879–1958). Blue-green morocco inlaid with leathers of different colours. Back turn-ins signed with Pye's device and dated 1930. Sybil Pye was a self-taught binder who developed a highly original style, giving prominence to the technique of inlay. Her use of colour combined with the Art Deco style made her bindings highly collectible by the greatest bibliophiles of the pre-war period (and ever since).
