Description: Black Butte Dam, shown here May 28, 2009, is located near Orland, Calif., in Tehama and Glenn counties. Completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District in 1963, the dam impounds Stony Creek, creating Black Butte Lake. When full, the lake has a surface area of 4,460 acres, is seven miles long and boasts a shoreline of 40 miles. The dam reduces flood risk for nearby towns and agricultural lands. Black Butte Lake and Dam are managed by the Sacramento District. (U.S. Army Photo/Chris Gray-Garcia)
