Image: Biederstaedt Grocery
Description: The Biederstaedt-Breitenbach Grocery at 851-853 Williamson Street in Madison, Wisconsin, replaced an earlier structure at this site. It was built by Charles Biederstaedt as a saloon and grocery in 1874, and in 1891, Bavarian immigrant George C. Breitenbach took over the store. A store with a residence above was a common pattern in 19th-century Madison. Built of brick in a high Victorian Italianate mode, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
