Description: Taj Mahal, built by Shah Jahan in the loving memory of his wife, is renowned all over the world, but very few know about the beautiful mausoleum built by his grandson, Azam Shah in the memory of his mother, Dilras Banu Begum, the wife of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb! Bibi-ka-Maqbara also known as the “Taj of deccan” or Dakkhani Taj is the prime architectural monument located in the city of Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The inscription at the gates states that the architect was Ata-ullah, who was the son of Ustad Ahmad Lahauri who is said to be the principal designer of the Taj Mahal. Another interesting fact about it is that just like Mumtaz mahal, Dilras Banu Begam also died in childbirth. Although built on a smaller scale than Tajmahal, due to the financial restrictions imposed by Aurangzeb, it is an architectural marvel indeed. The mughal gardens, living water management system, pavements ornamented with kiosks and floral motifs rank the maqbara among the best of Mughal buildings of the Deccan!
