Description: Belmont. Viewed across the park from Throwley Road. Belmont is a Georgian country house and was the seat of successive Lords Harris from 1801 until the Sixth Lord's death in 1995. The Harris family played a significant role in British expansion overseas during the 19th century. The original house was built in 1769 by Edward Wilks, the store-keeper at the nearby Faversham Powder Mill. It was because of the extensive views and its elevated position that Wilks called the house Belmont. The house and gardens are open to the public at weekends throughout the summer http://www.belmont-house.org/
