However, the movement of the Saffarid forces through al-Ahwaz province is somewhat speculative, as there were multiple roads between 'Askar Mukram and al-Sus; it is possible that they instead took the more northerly road that passed through Tustar and Junday Sabur before reaching al-Sus. The principal sources for this map are al-Tabari, pp. 168-70; al-Mas'udi, pp. 41-43; and Ibn Khallikan, pp. 313-19.
