Description: Pleistocene basalts over Cretaceous sandstones in Utah, USA. The dark-colored rocks at top are columnar-jointed basalt lava flows (at least two flows are present). The lighter-colored rocks below are cliff-forming, shallow marine to marginal marine sandstones in the Straight Cliffs Formation. Loose pieces of olivine basalt are present near road level in a 2009 rockslide deposit. They are presumably derived from this unit at the top of the cliff. Stratigraphy of lava flows: Cedar Canyon Basalt, lower Middle Pleistocene, 630 ka Stratigraphy of sandstones: Tibbet Canyon Member, Straight Cliffs Formation, Upper Cretaceous Locality: Cedar Canyon (view from Rt. 14 at milepost 8), southeastern Iron County, southwestern Utah, USA
