Image: Auburn High School 1870
Description: A photograph of Auburn High School in 1899. This building served as W.F. Slaton's Academy and the preparatory school of the East Alabama Male College prior to the Civil War, and as Auburn High School (under the names of the Auburn Female College, Auburn Female Institute, and Auburn High School) from 1870 through 1899.
Title: Auburn High School 1870
Credit: taken between 1899 and 1920 based on the buildings around it by unknown photographer, I located it in the Auburn University Archives; I do not know of the original date of publication, but I do have a copy of a published version in The Auburn Bulletin, "School days: Pot-bellied stoves, cucumber sandwiches, and one-eyed cat", August 30, 1978 with no notice of copyright and an attribution to the Auburn University Archives.
