Description: The backlight of an Atari Lynx II, shown with the white diffuser and LCD screen removed. The Atari Lynx and Sega Game Gear shared similar backlights, which were cold-cathode fluorescent lamp tubes (CCFLs). The backlights for both were very power hungry, necessitating six AA batteries that only could power the unit for a few hours. It wasn't until advances in LEDs that backlighting became power economical.
