Description: This authentic astrolabe was made in France in 1603. It was reportedly lost during Champlain's expedition to the Outaouais region in 1613. In August 1867, Edward George Lee, a teenager, accidentally discovered it in the ground under a felled tree near Green Lake, also known as Astrolabe Lake (across from Renfrew County, Ontario). Made in 1603 -- found in 1867; CMC 989.56.1
