Description: Heraldic achievement of Lieutenant General (Richard) Hussey Vivian, 1st Baron Vivian (1775-1842). Blazon: Or, on a chevron azure between three lion's heads erased proper as many annulets of the first on a chief embattled gules a wreath of oak of the first between two medals that on the dexter representing the gold medal and clasp given to the first baron for his services in the actions of Sahagreen, Benevente and Orthes and that on the sinister the silver Waterloo medal (Montague-Smith, P.W. (ed.), Debrett's Peerage, Baronetage, Knightage and Companionage, Kelly's Directories Ltd, Kingston-upon-Thames, 1968, p.1123). Also shown is an inescutcheon with the Red Hand of Ulster referencing his baronetcy. This is an example of what James Planché termed "debased heraldry", which contains overly complex elements. They are a differenced version of the arms of Vivian of Truro in Cornwall: Or, a chevron azure between three lion's heads erased proper a chief gules (Vivian, Lt.Col. J.L., (Ed.) The Visitations of the County of Devon: Comprising the Heralds' Visitations of 1531, 1564 & 1620, Exeter, 1895, p.757). Motto: Vive Revicturus ("Live as one about to live hereafter") (Debrett's, 1968, p.1123). Pendant below is a Badge of a Military Knight Grand Gross of the Order of the Bath, with the accompanying motto Ich Dien (Debrett's, 1968, pp.896-7). The motto encircling the arms is that of the Order of the Bath: Tria Juncta in Uno.
