Description: Friday, July 17, 2009---Andrzej Joachimiak and colleagues at Argonne's Midwest Center for Structural Genomics deposited the consortium's 1,000th protein structure into the Protein Data Bank. This structure represents a dehydrogenase enzyme from the bacteria Colwellia psychrerythraea. The enzyme is capable of generating harmful reactive oxygen species and has been implicated in neurodegeneration, ischemia-reperfusion, cancer and several other disorders. Read the full story.
