Description: Animal Wall 6 - Seal. One of nine original sculptures carved in 1891 by Thomas Nicholls to designs by William Burges. Originally on the walls of the Castle they were moved to Bute Park in the 1920s. As the creature has external ears is it is most probably a Sea Lion, or possibly a Fur Seal, rather than a species which nowadays would be regarded as a "true" seal, which are earless.
