Description: Lieutenant John Windham Dalling (1769–1786), portrait by Philip Reinagle (1749–1833)All Saints Church, Earsham, Norfolk, mural monument to Lieut. John William Dalling (1769–1786), who died in 1786, aged 17, at Madras in India. He was the eldest son and heir apparent of w:Sir John Dalling, 1st Baronet (c.1731-1798) of Burwood Park in the County of Surrey, soldier and colonial administrator, the son of John Dalling (1697–1744), of Bungay, Suffolk, by his wife Catherine Windham (d.1738), a daughter of Colonel William Windham (1673–1730), of Earsham Hall, the second son of William Windham I, of Felbrigg Hall, Norfolk. Also for Charles Lawford Dalling, second son of Sir John Dalling, 1st Baronet, who died April 16th, 1789, in the 17th year of his age. (Source: Edmund Farrer, Church Heraldry of Norfolk, p.9[1]). Arms: Quarterly of 4: 1&4: Ermine, on a bend gules three acorns or (Dalling) 2&3: Or, a chevron ermine between three lions passant gules (Lawford) Crest: A dexter arm couped proper, holding an oak branch vert, fructed or. General notes All Saints church > 1431607 - 1431611 is believed to have been built on the site of an encampment which dates back to the Roman occupation. The tower dates from the 14th century and has a timber spire, the chancel and its north door date from this time also. All Saints was extensively restored in the late 19th century and the reredos > 1431617 to the altar dates from this time. The east window > 1431619 and several nave south windows contain 16th century Flemish > 1431624 - 1431632 and some 15th century English > 1431631 stained glass. The octagonal font > 1431636 dates from the 16th century and is one of only 40-odd seven sacrament fonts in East Anglia.
