Image: Alice Guszalewicz as Salome
Description: Soprano Alice Guszalewicz as Salomé with Jokanaan's severed head in Richard Strauss's opera. Cologne 1906 or Leipzig 1907. Collection Guillot de Saix, Paris. Richard Ellmann's 1987 biography of Oscar Wilde had published the photo with the caption: "Oscar Wilde in the costume of Salomé." Mervin Holland and Dr. Horst Schroeder of Braunschweig however could prove that the photo showed Alice Guszalewicz who had sung Salome in Cologne in 1906 and in Leipzig 1907.
