Description: The Agamemnon was a pioneering long-distance commercial steamship, built to trade from the UK to the Far East. She had a compound engine and ran at a higher boiler pressure than had previously been allowed by the Board of Trade. Vessels of this sort of design rapidly replaced the clippers that had operated in the tea trade from China.
