Description: Aethaloessa calidalis. The adult moths of this species are black, with large overlapping orange spots on each wing. The thorax is black and orange. The abdomen is orange with a black tail. The species occurs across south-east Asia and Australia. Aethaloessa is a genus of moths of the Crambidae family. The Crambidae are the grass moth family of Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths). They are quite variable in appearance, the nominal subfamily Crambinae (grass moths) taking up closely folded postures on grass stems where they are inconspicuous, while other subfamilies include brightly coloured and patterned insects like this one rest in wing-spread attitudes.
