Description: The two-story building at 1 Montgomery Street, at the corner of Post Street in the Financial District of San rancisco, California, is the remnant of a 12-story building built in 1908 and designed by Willis Polk for the First National Bank of San Francisco, which was later acquired by the Crocker Bank, which itself merged with Wells Fargo in 1986. A two-story addition to the original 12-story tower was built at 25 Montgomery Street in 1921, designed by Charles Gottschalk to replicate Polk's designWhen concerns were expressed that the original sandstone facade of the original building was not in good shape, the top ten floors were remodeled in the 1960s in a contemporary fashion by Milton Pflueger. Those ten floors were then removed from the building when the neighboring Crocker Galleria was built, as was a 500-foot building at the corner of Post and Kearny Streets, which should have been addressed as 120 Kearny Street, but was christened "One Montgomery". The rooftop of the remnant 2-story building was turned into a rooftop garden as a privately owned public space. In 2016 it was proposed that a 500-foot building be raised on top of the 2-story building. (Source: "The Brief History of One Montgomery")
