Description: Pongal is an annual Hindu festival dedicated to sun god, observed by the Tamil community around mid January. Traditionally it includes a dish prepared from boiling freshly harvested rice in milk and jaggery. It is an occasion for decorations, prayers, visits to temples, social bonding, processions and gift giving.
