Description: 18 Folgate Street Better known as Dennis Severs' House, after the former resident (died 1999) who devised a unique re-creation of the past within these walls. With the emphasis upon atmosphere rather than authenticity, Dennis Severs furnished, decorated and equipped the place to appear exactly as it might be were a visitor to wander in upon the imaginary family while they were momentarily absent but with everything just as if they had but slipped out: fires lit, candles burning, meals half-eaten, books and embroidery flung down, not to mention the sounds and smells of Georgian life too.
