Description: The John A. Lankford Residence and Office, located at 1448 Q Street, N.W., in the Logan Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Built in 1881 by David Alvindon, the Queen Anne-style row house served as the private residence and office of John Anderson Lankford, D.C.'s first, registered, African American architect and the first, licensed, African American architect in Virginia. His designs include the True Reformer Building, Lankford's first major commission, listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1989. The John A. Lankford Residence and Office is designated as a contributing property to the Fourteenth Street Historic District, listed on the NRHP in 1994.
