It is one of several colonias in the county.

Hillside Acres first appeared as a census designated place in the 2010 U.S. Census, one of seven CDPs (Colorado Acres, Hillside Acres, Las Haciendas, Las Pilas, Los Veteranos I, Pueblo East, and Valle Verde) were formed out the Ranchitos Las Lomas CDP.
