Gnome Alone is a 2017 Canadian-American computer-animated fantasy comedy film directed by Peter Lepeniotis and written by Michael Schwartz and Zina Zaflow, from a story by Robert Moreland. The film was first released in November 2017 in Cyprus, Greece, Romania, and Israel. Produced by Vanguard Animation and 3QU Media, the film stars the voices of Becky G, Josh Peck, Olivia Holt, George Lopez, Patrick Stump, and David Koechner. It follows a young girl who moves into a new town, suddenly pairing up with a group of gnomes and her awkward neighbor in an attempt to defeat a pack of rabid and hungry beasts called Troggs.
Plot
Chloe and her estranged mother, Catherine, moved to the city of "Tenderville," much to Chloe's dismay. She is weirded out after finding a pack of gnomes spread around the house, so she gives one to her a rather awkward neighbor, Liam. During dinner, she spots a noise coming from the kitchen and discovers a secret room that holds a bright green gem, which she takes and turns into a necklace; unbeknownst to her, a portal from another realm opens up in her basement, unleashing a pack of rabid and hungry creatures named "Troggs. At school, she befriends popular girl Brittany and her friends, Chelsea and Tiffany. She catches Brittany's attention with the necklace and gives it to her in hopes of gaining popularity. At home, she finds a Trogg and tries to kill it with various objects, but it eats everything she throws its way. An unseen object later blows it up.
The next day, her mom announces that she will be taking an extra shift at work, allowing a group of gnomes to tie her up after learning of the Trogg's existence. The gnomes, led by Zook, ask her about the "Keystone" and reveal that the necklace (Keystone) is the only thing keeping the Troggs from invading their realm but are interrupted by a Trogg. After several struggles, Zook reveals that music is the Trogg's weakness and sends the Trogg back to where it came from using his ooze blaster. Liam witnessed the event, so Chloe recruits him to help fight off the Troggs. Chloe attempts to get the necklace back from Brittany but to no avail. The gnomes retreat to their hideout -where the necklace was kept- and call a code red, locking them all inside the house to keep the Troggs from escaping into the outside. Quicksilver, one of the gnomes, reveals that the Troggs became their mortal enemies after they devoured the life that the gnomes thrived. Using the Keystone, they were able to stop the Trogg's portals from opening. Zook reveals that one of their own, Zamfeer, the former leader of the gnomes, once journeyed into the Trogg realm to destroy it but never returned. Using limited ooze from a plant, Chloe, Liam, and the gnomes help fight off the Troggs.
Planning to obtain the necklace from Brittany alone at a school dance, Liam reveals his history with the BTCs (Brittany, Tiffany, and Chelsea) to Chloe. He tells her to back away from them, worried that she will become attached to them and then get destroyed if she ever moves again. Offended, the two become estranged. At the dance, Chloe finds out that Brittany didn't bring the necklace but comes up with a plan to swing by her house after the dance. Chloe becomes distracted; unbeknownst to her, the gnomes have become outnumbered by the Troggs. After being humiliated by the BTCs, Liam heads home and accidentally falls inside a Trogg portal and becomes stranded in their realm. Realizing the truth in Liam's words, Chloe unfriends the BTCs and heads home. After learning of Liam's accident, Chloe gains confidence and ventures after him through a portal in the toilet. She finds Liam, who gratefully accepts Chloe's apology, and meets Zamfeer, who has grown old and smelly after years of being lost. They uncover a giant crystal from Quicksilver's story and plan to use Chloe's phone lithium battery to blow up the crystal to destroy the Trogg realm. They blow up the crystal, which is the bigger version of the "Keystone," and use the invading Troggs to escape using a portal, which sucks the Troggs back in before they can overpower the gnomes. Liam, Chloe, and Zamfeer escape from the toilet; the gnomes happily reunite with Zamfeer.
Brittany arrives to humiliate Chloe and Liam and threatens to destroy the remaining Keystone. While Brittany chastises Chloe, the Gnomes, Chloe, and Liam witness the Mega Trogg, the last remaining Trogg created out of the Trogg's remains, escape from the basement while the rest overlook in horror. It blocks them from escaping, so Chloe, Brittany, Liam, and the Gnomes travel to the roof along with the ooze plant, which the Mega Trogg fears. The Mega Trogg takes Brittany hostage while the rest helplessly dangle off the side of the roof. Using the Keystone, Brittany's phone, and the ooze plant, Chloe creates a bomb, which blows up the Mega Trogg and restores their reality. Waking up alongside her mom, Chloe assures her that she wants to stay, while Brittany confirms that she has no memory of what happened the night before. Chloe realizes the gnomes still exist and walks alongside Liam to school.
