George Woodman Hilton (January 18, 1925 – August 4, 2014) was an American historian and economist. He worked in social history, transportation economics, regulation by commission, the history of economic thought and labor history.
Hilton was born in Chicago. Hilton studied at Dartmouth College and earned his A.B. in Economics summa cum laude in 1946. He received his M.A. in 1950. Hilton studied at the London School of Economics in 1953-1955, and got his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1956.
He then taught for many years at the University of California, Los Angeles, and was later a Professor Emeritus of Economics at UCLA.
Hilton died in Los Angeles, California, aged 89.
