Frank Odin (March 24, 1863 - June 7, 1899) was the first captain of the Charlotte sternwheeler that served the route from Soda Creek to Quesnel on the upper Fraser River from 1896 to 1910, until she hit a reef in the Fort George Canyon and sank.
Biography
Frank Odin was born in Point Roberts. In 1896, he became the captain of the Charlotte that was launched in Quesnel in August of that year. Odin was a well-known and well-respected river man. He piloted the Charlotte for three years until he died of a heart attack while at the helm. He was only 35 years old. His grave can still be seen at the Soda Creek Cemetery.
Personal life
Odin married Ann Taylor (b. about 1861 at Fort Langley) at some point in the 1880s. Both Ann and Frank were listed as Roman Catholics in the 1891 census and had two boys, George (aged three) and John (two months old).
What became of Ann after her husband's death is unknown. It is thought that Ann remarried, was living in Victoria and later died in childbirth.
