Dow City is a city in Crawford County, Iowa, United States, along the Boyer River. The population was 485 at the time of the 2020 census.
History
Judge S. E. Dow settled at what is now Dow City in 1855. In 1869, he laid out the town in anticipation of the railroad being built through the settlement. The railroad depot was built in 1870.
Dow City is the location of the historic Dow House, which was built in 1872.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.32 square miles (0.83 km2), all land.
Dow City is located on U.S. Route 30 and is thirty miles north of Interstate 80.

2010 census
As of the census of 2010, there were 510 people, 219 households, and 137 families living in the city. The population density was 1,593.8 inhabitants per square mile (615.4/km2). There were 242 housing units at an average density of 756.3 per square mile (292.0/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 93.1% White, 0.2% Native American, 6.1% from other races, and 0.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.0% of the population.
There were 219 households, of which 28.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.4% were married couples living together, 9.1% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.0% had a male householder with no wife present, and 37.4% were non-families. 31.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.95.
The median age in the city was 42.4 years. 24.1% of residents were under the age of 18; 7% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 21.4% were from 25 to 44; 28.3% were from 45 to 64; and 19.4% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 50.4% male and 49.6% female.
Education
Boyer Valley Community School District operates public schools serving the community. It was a part of the Dow City-Arion Community School District until July 1, 1994, when it merged into the Boyer Valley district.
