Dorothy Jean Dandridge (November 9, 1922 – September 8, 1965) was an African American singer and actress. In 1955, she became the first Black actress to be nominated for an Academy Award. The nomination was for Best Actress. She starred in many movies.
Dandridge was born in Cleveland, Ohio.
