History
Danvers was platted between 1912 and 1914. Once the construction of the the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad was complete, the population of Fergus County started growing rapidly. Prospective farmers were promised 320 acres of free land under the Enlarged Homestead Act, which resulted in an influx of new settlers. Many of them arrived from Central and Southern Europe.
A post office was established at Danvers in 1914, and remained in operation until 1982.
By 1915, Danvers had a hardware store, dance hall, saloon, hotel and restaurant, barber shop, cobbler, blacksmith, butcher, livery stable, lumberyard, and grain elevator.
By 1920 the residents of Danvers were mostly engaged in farming.
While only a few residents and buildings remain in Danvers, St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, built in 1915, is still the center of the community. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
