The arrondissement of Montbard is an arrondissement of France, in the Côte-d'Or department, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Its capital is the city of Montbard.
History
When the Côte-d'Or department was created on 17 February 1800, Montbard was not one of the original arrondissements of that department. The arrondissement of Montbard was made in 1926 with the merging of the arrondissements of Châtillon-sur-Seine and Semur-en-Auxois.
Geography
It is the largest in area of the arrondissements of the department, with an area of 3,595.9 km2 (1,388 sq mi), but the one with the lowest population with 60,699 inhabitants and a density of 16.9 inhabitants/km².
The arrondissement of Montbard is bordered to the north by the Aube and Haute-Marne departments, to the east by the arrondissement of Dijon, to the south by the arrondissement of Beaune, to the southwest by the Nièvre department and to the west by the Yonne department.

After the reorganisation of the cantons in France, cantons are not subdivisions of the arrondissements so they could have communes that belong to different arrondissements.
