Ahl al-Bayt facts for kids
Ahl al-Bayt (Arabic: أهل البيت) is an Arabic phrase that means People of the House, or family of the House. The phrase was used in Arabia before the founding of Islam to refer to someone's clan. Within Islam, the term refers to the family of the prophet Muhammad. Shia Muslims limited this term to five people who were Ali, Fatimah, Hassan and Hussain while Sunni Islam extend it to the wives of Muhammad.
