A Tribe Called Quest was an alternative hip hop group that started in 1985. They are perhaps most famous for their song "Can I kick it?". The members are MC/producer Q-Tip, MC Phife Dawg aka Phife Diggy (Malik Taylor), and DJ/producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad. Jarobi White was a member until 1991. They have released five albums.

In 1985 A Tribe Called Quest started. They were signed to Geffen Records in 1989. In 1990 their first album People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm was released. In 1991 the group's second album The Low End Theory was released. Midnight Marauders was released in 1991. It reached number eight in the American album chart. In 1996 Beats Rhymes and Life was released. It reached number one in the American album chart. Rolling Stone magazine gave it a score of 4 out of 5 stars. In 1998 The Love Movement was released as their last album. It reached number three in the American album chart. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, in 1999. A Tribe Called Quest made their last performances at Kanye West's 2013 The Yeezus Tour.
